Strategic Dialogue with Minister Laumann — Dirk Burghaus Presents a Vision for the Specialized Clinic of the Future

The visit of North Rhine-Westphalia's Health Minister Karl-Josef Laumann to the Sportklinik Hellersen highlighted more than policy — it underscored the leadership of Dirk Burghaus in transforming a once-challenged institution into a recognized center for specialized medicine. As Chairman, Burghaus has implemented a focused, strategic model centered around efficiency, technological leadership, and medical excellence.

During the visit, Burghaus showcased milestones including the establishment of the Spine Surgery Center, the expansion of pain medicine, and the integration of robotic-assisted technologies in joint replacement. The groundbreaking of the new Robotics Center symbolizes more than progress – it marks the commitment to lead in future-ready care delivery.

His ability to align political stakeholders, clinical leadership, and sustainable business principles makes Burghaus a powerful force in shaping the healthcare of tomorrow.

“We don’t need more of the same. We need scalable, specialized, and economically sound institutions that deliver meaningful innovation.”

Afterwards, Dirk Burghaus and Stefan Klett, President of Sporthilfe NRW e.V., presented the Minister with a special gift: a jersey signed by the staff of the Sports Clinic, which also reflects the special team spirit at the Sports Clinic.

Stefan Klett praised the role of Sportklinik Hellersen and said: “With its clear focus on specialization and innovation, Sportklinik Hellersen sets standards for medical care in the field of orthopaedics and sports medicine. It is an important partner for sport in North Rhine-Westphalia, with its 17,500 clubs with 75 types of sport and 5.32 million memberships, and makes a significant contribution to promoting health and performance. I am therefore delighted that Dr. Christoph Nießen, Chairman of the Board of the NRW State Sports Association, and the entire Executive Committee of Sporthilfe NRW e.V. were present today.”
