Strategic Continuity – Dirk Burghaus Strengthens Leadership Team with Internal Appointment

By appointing Dr. Markus Leyh as the new Chief Physician for Shoulder, Elbow, Knee Surgery, and Traumatology, Dirk Burghaus sends a clear signal: continuity, quality, and targeted talent development. Promoting a long-standing team member from within the clinic exemplifies his leadership philosophy — recognizing potential, supporting it, and assigning responsibility where it creates lasting value.

Dr. Leyh has been part of the medical team at Sportklinik Hellersen since 2011 and most recently served as Section Head. As a native of Lüdenscheid, he not only knows the clinic but also the region — a combination that brings together medical excellence and local engagement. His extensive experience, precision in joint surgery, and patient-focused approach embody the standard of care that has defined the clinic under Burghaus: top-tier medicine, human connection, and strategic vision.

Joining him is Dr. Tobias Schmenn, who returns to Hellersen in the role of Medical Operations Coordinator. He will be responsible for the strategic interface between the hospital and its medical care centers (MVZ). A seasoned surgeon and team doctor of the German women’s national soccer team, Dr. Schmenn strengthens the clinic’s long-standing reputation in elite sports medicine.

“Leadership in healthcare means giving the right people the right responsibility at the right time – with a clear eye on the future.”

Dirk Burghaus
Chairman of the Management Board Sportklinik Hellersen

This strategic personnel decision once again shows that Burghaus leads not only with economic clarity but with a human touch — always focused on the broader vision: developing a clinic built on specialization, trust, and excellence.
